Personal Profile

Dr. Telmo Coelho is a highly experienced psychiatrist with a unique background in both civil and military medicine. With over 15 years of clinical practice, he has developed deep expertise in adult psychiatry, military mental health, and forensic psychiatric evaluation.

After graduating with a Master’s in Medicine from NOVA Medical School—Lisbon and completing additional training at the Portuguese Military Academy, Dr. Coelho began his career at top institutions such as Hospital de São João and the Armed Forces Hospital in Porto. He also served on an international deployment in Kabul, Afghanistan, providing care to both military personnel and local civilians.

He has worked extensively in correctional settings, offering psychiatric care in several penitentiary centres and conducting expert medical evaluations in collaboration with courts and military institutions.

Additionally, he has specialised training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which enriches his holistic, empathetic approach to patient care.
