rTMS – Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
rTMS (Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) is an innovative, non-invasive and painless medical technique used in psychiatry to treat certain conditions when conventional approaches are insufficient or poorly tolerated. At our medical practice, rTMS is provided in a secure, medicalized and personalized setting, under specialist supervision.
What is rTMS?
rTMS is based on the use of a targeted magnetic field applied to specific areas of the brain involved in the regulation of mood, emotions, and cognitive functions. These magnetic pulses modulate neuronal activity in a controlled manner, without anesthesia or surgery.
Main indications
rTMS is mainly indicated for:
-
Treatment-resistant depression, when medication has not produced satisfactory results
-
Certain anxiety disorders
-
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
-
Certain forms of chronic pain or neurological disorders, depending on medical indication
A thorough clinical assessment is always carried out to confirm the indication and adapt the treatment protocol.
How does the treatment work?
An rTMS session lasts on average 20 to 30 minutes. The patient is seated comfortably, remains awake, and can resume normal activities immediately after the session.
A complete treatment course generally includes 20 to 30 sessions, spread over several weeks, according to the protocol defined by the physician.
