rTMS – Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
rTMS is a non-invasive neuromodulation technique used in certain psychiatric indications, performed under medical supervision at Cabinet Vade in Luxembourg.
What is rTMS?
rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation) is a non-invasive neuromodulation technique.
It uses targeted magnetic pulses applied to the scalp in order to modulate the activity of certain brain areas involved in the regulation of mood and emotions.
The procedure does not require anesthesia or hospitalization.
In which situations can it be proposed?
rTMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) may be considered, after medical evaluation, in certain situations such as:
• Certain forms of depression, particularly those resistant to medication
• Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD)
• Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
• Specific anxiety disorders
• Chronic pain
• Migraine (with or without aura)
• Other indications according to specialist medical advice
A prior consultation allows confirmation of the indication and adaptation of the treatment protocol.
How does a session take place?
A session generally lasts between 20 and 30 minutes.
The patient is comfortably seated in a medical chair.
A device is precisely positioned on the scalp to deliver the magnetic pulses.
Most patients are able to resume their usual activities immediately after the session.
